History of CSS

On September 8, 1951, St. Matthew School opened, led by the School Sisters of Notre Dame. Ten years later, on September 6, 1961, St. Thomas More School began its own rich tradition under the leadership of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Chestnut Hill. In September 1989, these two schools merged and were renamed Cardinal Shehan School, in honor of Cardinal Shehan.

Through the years, thousands of students have benefited from these schools’ faith-filled instruction, outstanding academics and disciplined atmosphere.
