Have a blessed day.
SPELLING
We are currently on Unit # 9 in spelling. The spelling packets have been completed satisfactorily. We would like to encourage your students to begin writing more in depth sentences using the skills that we have been learning about in English class.
The packet will be worth 100 points.
SOCIAL STUDIES
In Social Studies we are still learning about the geography of the United States focusing on each region. We will also be learning the states and capitals of all 50 states.
SCIENCE
We have already finished two chapters in Science class learning about plants and the way they function and their importance in the world. Next we are moving onto Chapter 3---Animal Diversity. We will learn about the classifications of animals, their habitats, and adaptations. I am very excited to start this chapter. We will be doing a Science project during this chapter. The information for this project will be sent home in the next week.

Math
We are currently starting Unit 2 Chapter 3. The students are demonstrating an understanding of all the concepts that we have already learned and we are practicing and applying the new skills until they are confident and demonstrating understanding. In Chapter 3, we are using the properties of multiplication to solve algebraic expressions, estimating products and quotients, multiplying and dividing by both one and two digit numbers, using correct orders of operations, and solving multi-step word problems using the learned skills and strategies.
If you feel that your student needs more practice please use the text book pages and problems for review and study aides.
Here are some
great websites that have both interactive math games
as well as printable sheets that you can use as practice and review at home.

Language Arts
We are in our second theme of the school year called “Give it all you’ve Got!” There are four stories in this theme that we will be reading: Michelle Kwan, La Bamba, The Fear Place, and Mae Jemison. During this theme we will be focusing on the following reading and comprehension skills: fact and opinion, story structure, predicting outcomes, and topic/main idea and supporting details. You can work on these skills at home with your child by reading stories aloud or having them read silently and then asking questions about what they have read.
In English we are learning and applying the following skills: common and proper nouns, singular and plural possessive nouns, action verbs, direct objects, main, helping, and linking verbs, verb tenses, and combining sentences. Please work on these skills at home by reading the sentences they are writing for their spelling packets and have them apply at least one of these skills to their writing. You can also give them a list of nouns and have them write the proper or common noun that pairs with it and then the possessive form of that noun in a sentence.
