First Grade at Cardinal Shehan School focuses on the child spiritually, physically, and academically.
First Graders grow in their knowledge of God; a seed planted by their parents and one that is nurtured through the years at Cardinal Shehan School. Students learn to be peacemakers in every situation and practice peace skills intended to be used for a lifetime.
First Graders grow physically in many ways. Our program teaches children to treat themselves and their bodies with respect, using proper nutrition and exercise.
First Graders grow academically. Students are given many opportunities to use their emerging reading skills in all subject areas. They journal, they write and illustrate stories, and they learn the importance of Math in everyday living. Students grow in their knowledge of the world through lessons in Science and Social Studies. Grade One students also grow in their appreciation of beauty and diversity through their experiences in Art, Music, Library, Physical Education, and Spanish.
